“ This sumi ink and watercolor painting is the stream near my house winding through the rocks. The lichen on the trees is painted with powdered malachite (stone color in China) and glows as the lichen does on Deer Isle. The yellow of the leaves and the black and white birch bark were a perfect subject for sumi-e. ”
